Early in my pastels career, I was drawn to painting Statues. Public sculpture is everywhere in cities, but rarely truly noticed.. In Washington DC. the Library of Congress has a magnificent display, the Neptune Fountain. It features Zeus, sea monsters and women astride horses. It is the work of Roland Hinton Perry from 1898. I have painted several of the figures.
